Liverpool receive significant boost with Alexander Isak as Newcastle reportedly ‘in talks’ for a new striker in a potential wild swap deal.

Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak could be revived as Newcastle United have been ‘offered’ a chance to sign a top European striker—but there’s a twist.

Isak, 25, has attracted Liverpool’s attention throughout the summer transfer window, with the Reds’ £110 million-plus bid recently rejected by Newcastle.

The transfer window has been tough for Newcastle so far, despite signing right winger Anthony Elanga, left winger Antonio Cordero, and securing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan.

Meanwhile, Newcastle missed out on targets Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, who signed for Liverpool and Manchester United respectively. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is also reportedly a target, with interest on both sides.

Any new signings for Newcastle likely hinge on what happens with Isak, with head coach Eddie Howe describing the situation as “complex.”

Howe recently said: “I really don’t know what will happen next, but we still support Alex fully, and I hope to see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”

If Isak moves to Liverpool, Newcastle will need a reliable goalscorer to replace him. According to Italian source La Gazzetta dello Sport, that player could be Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic—though there’s a catch.

The report says Newcastle are “currently evaluating Vlahovic, who was offered to the club again recently by intermediaries.”

If the deal goes through, Juventus might try to sign Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali in return.

The possible deal might involve Newcastle sending either Douglas Luiz or Nicolò Savona along with Tonali, rather than a simple swap.

Vlahovic, 25, joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2022 and has scored 58 goals in 145 games for the club.

Tonali, contracted to Newcastle until 2028, flourished in midfield during the 2024/25 season and is one of their key players. Juventus reportedly view him as an ideal target, alongside other midfield interests such as Spurs’ Yves Bissouma, Brighton’s Matt O’Riley, Al Ahli’s Franck Kessie, and Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand.

However, Tonali’s agent has denied any Juventus transfer rumors. In February, agent Bepe Riso told Fabrizio Romano: “Back to Serie A in June? He is one of the best midfielders in the world, with a price that Italian clubs will struggle to meet. I envision his career away from Serie A.”
