Liverpool are reportedly preparing another high-profile bid for a Premier League star following the departure of one of their current players.
The Reds have already secured the signing of right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen by activating his £35 million release clause. Additionally, they have reached an agreement to bring in Frimpong’s teammate, Florian Wirtz, in a deal worth an initial £100 million. Talks are also ongoing with Bournemouth over a potential move for left-back Milos Kerkez, valued at £45 million.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool’s next move could involve a departure, with centre-back Jarell Quansah in advanced talks to join Leverkusen. The Anfield side are said to be asking for up to £40 million, though a compromise is close, involving a £30 million fee plus £5.5 million in add-ons—a figure that would mark a record signing for the German club.
New Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly familiar with Quansah from his time managing Manchester United and sees him as a key addition following the arrival of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford. Quansah, who signed a four-year deal with Liverpool in October, struggled for game time under Arne Slot last season, managing just 13 league appearances and being used mainly in cup competitions due to injuries in the squad.
The 22-year-old is currently representing England at the U21 European Championship, having played every minute of the group stage.
Should Quansah depart as expected, The Telegraph reports that Liverpool plan to make a “significant offer” for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Guehi has developed into one of the Premier League’s top centre-backs and is widely expected to be a regular starter for England when fit.
He recently helped Palace lift the FA Cup, which earned them a Europa League spot. Despite this success, the club are reportedly prepared to sell him this summer.
Alternatively, according to BBC Sport, Liverpool may consider waiting to sign Guehi on a free transfer next summer if he doesn’t renew his contract with Palace—though it’s unclear whether the defender would be willing to leave for free.
