Liverpool Plot Surprise Late Move to Beat Arsenal to £68m Eberechi Eze Deal
Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, are reportedly preparing a surprise late bid to snatch Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze from under Arsenal’s nose, according to The Independent.
The 27-year-old England international has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, with Mikel Arteta eager to bolster his attacking and creative options this summer. However, Liverpool have now intensified their interest in the Palace playmaker.
The Reds have already enjoyed a strong transfer window, securing top talents like Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez. Despite that, new manager Arne Slot appears eager to further strengthen the squad’s attacking depth — with Eze emerging as a key target.
Eze played a crucial role in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season and delivered standout individual performances that caught the attention of several top clubs.
While Arsenal are believed to be leading the race, no club has made a formal bid yet. Liverpool’s entry into the pursuit is reportedly influenced by ongoing uncertainty surrounding Luis Díaz’s future. Eze’s versatility — capable of operating both on the wing and in a central attacking role — makes him an attractive option for Slot’s setup.
If signed, Eze would compete for a starting place with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Díaz, should the Colombian remain at Anfield.
Arsenal are still considered favourites due to their sustained interest and Eze’s own reported preference for a move to North London. But Liverpool’s involvement could potentially sway his decision as both clubs gear up for another battle — this time off the pitch — for one of the Premier League’s most creative talents.
Eze has a £68 million release clause, which any club will need to activate to secure his services this summer.
