Liverpool Midfielder Heads Out on Loan Again as Club Confirms Departure
Liverpool have officially confirmed that one of their young midfielders has left the club on a season-long loan, following recent speculation that a move was on the cards.
Luca Stephenson, who appeared in three of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies under new manager Arne Slot, has rejoined Dundee United for another year. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder returns to the Scottish side where he made 34 appearances last season.
Dundee United announced the deal via their official website, expressing delight at bringing Stephenson back to Tannadice. Manager Jim Goodwin didn’t hold back in praising the Liverpool loanee, stating:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Luca back. He made a massive impact last season—not just with his performances, but also through his attitude and energy. Even when he was physically struggling, he gave everything for the club. That speaks volumes about his character.

Hoping for Consistent Minutes and Continued Growth
Goodwin’s admiration is well-founded. Earlier this year, he revealed that Stephenson had played through a double hernia for four months, a remarkable show of grit and determination from the young Englishman.
Now approaching his 22nd birthday, Stephenson finds himself at a crucial point in his career. This marks his third consecutive loan spell, though the return to a familiar environment at Dundee United could prove beneficial.
His goal will be to make the most of this opportunity, build on last season’s momentum, and ideally return to Liverpool next summer ready to compete for a spot in the senior squad. With fierce competition in Arne Slot’s midfield, that won’t be easy—but based on his resilience and work ethic, Stephenson is unlikely to shy away from the challenge.
