Liverpool hit with an unexpected Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer shock at this stage.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a surprising move to lure Trent Alexander-Arnold to the club.

The 26-year-old right-back is set to see his Liverpool contract expire at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with a switch to the Spanish giants.

As things stand, Alexander-Arnold could join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

However, according to The Sun, Carlo Ancelotti is eager to bring him in time for this season’s Club World Cup, which begins on June 15.

To make that happen, both clubs would need to reach an agreement—including a transfer fee—that would allow Liverpool to release Alexander-Arnold before his contract officially expires on June 30.

The Premier League’s summer transfer window opens on June 12, allowing new signings to be registered for the Club World Cup. However, La Liga’s window doesn’t open until July 1, after the tournament has already begun.

Liverpool’s season could also extend until May 31 if they reach the Champions League final.

FIFA has already approved “an exceptional registration window from June 1 to June 10, 2025, before the tournament begins.”

In an October statement, FIFA clarified that clubs participating in the tournament could make squad changes between June 27 and July 3, but only within specific limits and if a standard transfer window is open for the club at the time.

Their goal is to encourage clubs and players with expiring contracts to find solutions that allow them to participate in the competition.

Unlike Mohamed Salah, whose contract is also nearing its end, Alexander-Arnold has remained silent about his future.

Regardless of where he plays next season, he will be focused on securing his second Premier League and Champions League titles, with Liverpool sitting 13 points clear at the top of the table heading into gameweek 29.

The Reds also boosted their European hopes with a 1-0 victory over PSG in their Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
