Liverpool have reportedly turned down an ambitious attempt by Real Madrid to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The England international, whose contract with Liverpool expires this summer, has been with the club since joining its academy in 2006.
Despite the risk of losing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer if he doesn’t agree to a new deal, Liverpool rejected Real Madrid’s January approach, which, according to the Daily Mail, was described as a “club-to-club approach” rather than a formal offer.
At 26 years old, Alexander-Arnold has yet to confirm if he plans to leave his boyhood club for a new challenge. However, Real Madrid’s interest in the Three Lions star reflects their need for a right-back, as manager Carlo Ancelotti looks to strengthen his squad amid injuries.
Madrid’s current right-back, Dani Carvajal, is expected to miss the rest of the season, leaving the La Liga champions, who are just one point behind Atletico Madrid at the top, seeking reinforcements. Despite this, Liverpool remain intent on retaining Alexander-Arnold.
