Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with a new attacking player, while the transfer situation involving Alexander Isak has taken a messy turn.

Liverpool Shift Focus to New Forward as Alexander Isak Deal Stalls

Liverpool are reportedly exploring alternative options in their search for a new forward, as efforts to sign Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak continue to encounter significant setbacks.

Despite already making high-profile moves this summer—securing a British record transfer for Florian Wirtz and adding Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitike—the club appears to still be active in the market.

Although a number of attacking players have been linked with a move to Anfield, Isak has remained Liverpool’s primary target. The Swedish striker is said to be eager to join the Reds, to the point where he has refused to train or participate in Newcastle’s pre-season preparations.

However, as negotiations with Newcastle become increasingly complicated, fresh reports suggest that Liverpool have reached a personal agreement with another forward.

Following the £65.5 million departure of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich, speculation has grown around new manager Arne Slot’s plans for the front line. Many expected those funds to be used toward an Isak deal, but with Newcastle rejecting a £110 million offer, Liverpool have reportedly redirected their focus to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

According to ESPN Brazil via The Standard, Liverpool have initiated contact with Rodrygo’s representatives in anticipation of submitting a formal bid. Journalist Siro Lopez claims the Brazilian forward has already approved the club’s informal offer regarding personal terms.

What This Means for the Isak Transfer

Rodrygo’s potential arrival doesn’t entirely rule out a deal for Isak, but it certainly complicates it. With Madrid reportedly valuing Rodrygo at around £70 million and Newcastle holding out for £150 million for Isak, signing both would be financially challenging.

Meanwhile, the Isak situation at Newcastle appears to be deteriorating. According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Isak is unhappy and training alone in the Basque region—not due to injury, but because of frustration over what he believes were broken promises from the club regarding his future or salary.

“The situation is becoming very, very ugly,” Downie added, describing the striker as unsettled and agitating for a move away from St James’ Park.
