Liverpool supporters were quick to notice a potential clue about Federico Chiesa’s future after he netted his first Premier League goal in the win over Bournemouth.
Despite limited involvement last season — making only six league appearances as Liverpool clinched a 20th title under Arne Slot — Chiesa appeared to make a statement during the new campaign’s opener.
Coming off the bench to replace Florian Wirtz with the score level at 2-2 following goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, and a brace from Antoine Semenyo, Chiesa made an immediate impact. He scored a stunning volley to put Liverpool ahead 3-2, sparking wild celebrations at Anfield.
During his celebration, the former Juventus winger ran toward the Kop, slid on his knees, and pointed to the Liverpool badge on his shirt — a gesture many fans interpreted as a strong signal that he intends to stay at the club.

Liverpool’s Change of Heart on Chiesa
Chiesa, Slot’s first signing at Liverpool, had reportedly been considering a return to Italy, with interest from Napoli and Inter Milan. But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool have reversed their stance and decided to keep him, with Slot personally discussing the club’s position with the Italian.
Liverpool also signed Hugo Ekitike for £79 million, but with the departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Núñez, and the heartbreaking loss of Diogo Jota in a car accident involving his brother André Silva, the club now views Chiesa as a key figure in their attacking plans.
Next on the fixture list for Liverpool is an away game against Newcastle, who recently rejected a bid from the Reds for striker Alexander Isak — one of the major stories of the summer transfer window.
