Liverpool fans believe Virgil van Dijk has decided to sign a new contract based on his four-word Instagram post.

Virgil van Dijk’s potential contract extension has become a hot topic among Liverpool fans, especially after he posted a cryptic message on Instagram. Along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, van Dijk is one of three players whose contracts are set to expire in six months.

The 33-year-old defender, who expressed his ambition to continue playing at the highest level before Liverpool’s match against Leicester City, is reportedly “very likely” to extend his time at the club, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Van Dijk’s recent Instagram post, which featured five photos from Liverpool’s Boxing Day win over Leicester, included the caption: “The show goes on..” This has led to widespread speculation among fans. While some believe the caption refers to the thick Merseyside fog that affected the match, others think it hints at van Dijk’s intention to sign a new contract.

Fans reacted with a mix of excitement and curiosity. One wrote: “THE CAPTION???” while another said: “He’s telling us already man.” Others speculated, with one fan commenting, “Van Dijk giving us a cryptic confirmation on Instagram that he’s signed a new Liverpool contract,” though another felt it was simply about the fog disrupting the game.

In an interview with The Times, van Dijk discussed his desire to continue playing at the highest level, saying: “I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful.” He also stated that he believes he could play at top form for another three or four years, adding, “We will see what the future brings.”

Additionally, van Dijk expressed his ambition to become the first Dutch player to captain Liverpool to a Premier League title, saying, “It’s not about me but I would love to be the first one [Dutch player]. I think it is there. That is what we work for as a team.”
