Liverpool fans believe it’s time to confront the glaring issue after a disastrous first half against Fulham.

Liverpool fans are outraged after their team suffered a defensive meltdown, trailing 3-1 to Fulham at halftime in their Premier League clash.

The Reds initially took the lead at Craven Cottage with a stunning long-range strike from Alexis Mac Allister. However, Fulham equalized in the 23rd minute through Ryan Sessegnon, who netted his third goal in seven games. Two costly mistakes from Andy Robertson—one being a misplaced cross-field pass to Curtis Jones—allowed Alex Iwobi to put Fulham ahead. The situation worsened when Rodrigo Muniz capitalized on more poor defending to make it 3-1 before the break.

Despite remaining at least 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with seven games left, Liverpool’s recent performances have been inconsistent. Fans took to social media to single out Robertson and Virgil van Dijk for their underwhelming first-half displays.

One fan tweeted: “This is horrifying to watch. Van Dijk hasn’t been the same since that week we lost twice.” Another criticized the Dutch defender for his role in Fulham’s third goal: “That was on Van Dijk—he got outmuscled too easily.” Others also questioned Robertson’s errors, with one remarking: “A shocking few seconds for Robertson—misplaced pass, missed header, and Fulham capitalized.”

This marks the fourth time Liverpool have conceded three or more goals in a match under Arne Slot, though they managed to win one of those games—a 6-3 victory over Tottenham in December. They also played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle that month but suffered a 3-2 loss to PSV in the Champions League group stage.

Despite recent struggles, Van Dijk has been one of Liverpool’s standout players this season. With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, a decision on his future looms. Speaking earlier this month, the captain remained tight-lipped: “There will be news soon. Whether it’s positive or not, I don’t know yet. But I love the club, and the club loves me.”
