Liverpool fans are stunned after discovering who the club has named as the new U21 head coach.

Liverpool fans are responding to the club’s latest news, as the reigning Premier League champions have officially named a new U21 head coach following the exit of long-time manager Barry Lewtas.

Lewtas, who had spent 12 years with Liverpool’s youth teams, stepped down earlier this month. During his time with the U21s, he played a key role in the development of players like Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley, Tyler Morton, and Jarell Quansah. Harvey Elliott also worked closely with Lewtas before breaking into the first team in 2019.

Now, Liverpool have confirmed that Rob Page, former Wales national team manager, will take over the U21 squad.

Page previously led Wales to the last 16 of Euro 2020 and helped them qualify for the 2022 World Cup — their first appearance at the tournament since 1958. Before his international success, he managed clubs like Port Vale and Northampton Town and worked with Wales’ U21s to nurture emerging talent.

Liverpool Academy director Alex Inglethorpe spoke about the decision to bring in Page:
“Rob brings extensive playing and managerial experience to a crucial role, helping young players transition from academy football to the senior level,” he told the club’s official website.

Inglethorpe praised Page’s international achievements, as well as his ability to develop young talent, pointing out that many of Liverpool’s academy players have thrived under his guidance at the international level.

“We’re excited to welcome Rob,” he added. “His experience will be a major asset as we continue striving to develop players ready to perform at the highest level.”

Fans have had mixed but largely positive reactions to Page’s appointment.

One supporter said: “Rob Page led Wales to their first World Cup in 64 years. Now he’s heading up Liverpool’s U21s. Another excellent hire.”

Another wrote: “Given Rob Page’s success with Wales and Lewtas’ long tenure, this feels like a strong and well-thought-out move. I’m very happy.”
