Liverpool Star Doubtful for Crucial PSG Clash After Missing Training
A key Liverpool player may miss their vital Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain after reports emerged that he was absent from training.
Following impressive Premier League victories over Manchester City and Newcastle United, Liverpool are preparing for a tough round of 16 clash against PSG on Wednesday. Despite topping their Champions League group, the Premier League leaders face a challenging draw against the French champions.
Adding to their concerns, Liverpool have suffered another setback, as one of their most influential players appears likely to miss the match.
Cody Gakpo has been in excellent form this season under new manager Arne Slot, netting eight goals and providing three assists in the Premier League. However, top Liverpool journalist David Lynch has reported that the Dutch forward did not participate in training on Tuesday, raising doubts over his availability for the trip to Parc des Princes.
Gakpo had missed Liverpool’s matches against Wolves and Aston Villa due to a minor injury but made substitute appearances in their wins over City and Newcastle, leading fans to believe he would be fit to start against PSG.
Supporters will hope his absence is only a short-term setback, as Liverpool face a crucial two-week period, including two matches against PSG and a Premier League fixture against Southampton. Soon after the second leg against the French side, Liverpool will head to Wembley to defend their Carabao Cup title against Newcastle in the 2025 final.
Encouragingly, Gakpo was spotted arriving at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday and is believed to be following an individual training program, suggesting he may recover in time for the cup final.
Meanwhile, defenders Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez also missed Tuesday’s session. Bradley is dealing with a minor injury, while Gomez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring issue.
