Liverpool’s hopes of landing Alexander Isak have been strengthened by a potential £25 million windfall, just as the Premier League season is about to begin with the Reds facing Bournemouth.

The pursuit of Isak remains ongoing, despite Liverpool already investing heavily this summer, bringing in Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike for a combined upfront fee of £169 million.

Even with those additions, manager Arne Slot is still looking to bolster his attack following the departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, as well as the tragic death of Diogo Jota. Isak has emerged as the club’s top target, with speculation intensifying as the transfer window nears its close.

Liverpool previously saw a £110 million offer for the Swedish striker turned down by Newcastle, who are holding out for £150 million and were initially unwilling to part ways with Isak without signing a replacement.

However, Liverpool’s chances have improved following developments around Ben Doak. The 19-year-old winger is set to join Bournemouth in a deal worth £25 million, according to The Guardian. Journalist Paul Joyce also reported that Doak has been left out of the squad for the Bournemouth fixture, further signaling his impending departure.

This potential sale gives Liverpool more funds to pursue Isak, with a revised offer of around £135 million now on the cards—combining their original £110 million bid with the proceeds from Doak’s sale.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are preparing to begin their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa at Villa Park. But Isak will not feature in the match. He has been training away from the main squad after expressing a desire to explore transfer options.

In his pre-match press conference, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged the situation:
“We have to move forward without him,” he said. “The squad knows he’s not available, so the focus is on the players we have.”

Howe added that he’s spoken to Isak privately and emphasized his commitment to preparing the team for the new season, as well as looking for incoming transfers. He confirmed that Isak’s situation remains unchanged.
