Marc Guehi is expected to attract significant interest next summer, with a third major European club now reportedly joining the chase for his signature after a proposed deadline day move to Liverpool fell through.
The 25-year-old England international and Crystal Palace captain was close to sealing a switch to Anfield on the final day of the transfer window, as he enters the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park. Liverpool had agreed a deal worth £35 million plus add-ons with Palace, and Guehi appeared poised to join the Premier League champions.
However, the move collapsed when Palace failed to secure a replacement in time, forcing them to hold on to their star defender.
Guehi, who joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 for a reported £18 million, has made 162 appearances and scored nine goals for the Eagles. During his time at the club, he helped them win the FA Cup last season and defeat Liverpool in the Community Shield earlier this campaign.
With the failed transfer, Guehi remains a Palace player—for now. But unless he signs a new contract, he’ll be free to leave on a Bosman next summer when his current deal expires. Palace’s final opportunity to earn a fee for him will be in the January window.
Guehi has made it clear he doesn’t intend to renew his contract, ensuring he’ll move on at the end of the season. Liverpool are still interested and will aim to secure him next summer, but competition is growing.
According to the Daily Express, Bayern Munich have now entered the race, joining Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona. Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly eager to sign the defender.
One advantage for these European clubs is that, from January 1, they’ll be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Guehi—an option not available to English clubs—potentially allowing them to beat Liverpool to the punch.
