Liverpool appear poised to make several defensive signings this week, starting with the finalization of Milos Kerkez’s £40 million move from Bournemouth on Monday.
This comes after already securing deals for Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen), Armin Pecsi (Puskas Akademia), and Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen).
Manager Arne Slot is also reportedly eyeing further reinforcements in central defense and up front.
Kerkez move nearly done
According to trusted journalist David Ornstein via The Athletic, Kerkez is on track to become Liverpool’s fourth senior signing of the summer. His arrival is part of a wider reshaping of the fullback roles, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free transfer to Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson is said to be considering his future at the club amid interest from Atletico Madrid. Should the Scot decide to leave, this could offer a lifeline to Kostas Tsimikas, whose Anfield future had been in doubt. In such a scenario, Liverpool may reconsider letting the Greek defender go.
Marc Guehi next on the radar?
With Jarell Quansah already out and Nathaniel Phillips also set to leave, Liverpool may soon have funds and space to invest in a centre-back.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has emerged as a key target. Reports from Valentin Furlan and Rudy Galetti suggest Liverpool are close to reaching a verbal agreement on personal terms with the 24-year-old.
However, his reported £45 million price tag could be a sticking point. As The Times journalist Paul Joyce notes, the club’s final decision may hinge on whether they see that fee as justifiable now or prefer to wait until next summer, when Guehi’s contract enters its final year.
