Liverpool may consider including a talented player in a deal to persuade a Premier League forward to join the club.
Arne Slot’s team currently leads both the Premier League and the 36-team Champions League group stage as they enter the latter half of the season.
The club remains in contention for a historic quadruple, having advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at Anfield on Saturday. Although they trail Tottenham 1-0 after the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Slot, 46, is confident his side can turn things around in the second leg at Anfield.
However, transfers have not gone as smoothly as expected since Slot’s arrival last summer. Liverpool has made just one signing under his tenure—Federico Chiesa.
With the January transfer window now open, the Reds have the opportunity to negotiate new deals. While the potential departures of key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—who are nearing the end of their contracts—are on many fans’ minds, Liverpool has been strongly linked with an in-form forward.
Yet, this potential transfer might not be straightforward.
The Daily Star reports that Liverpool is “showing interest” in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, with the Cherries “preparing” for potential bids for the forward. Semenyo, 25, has scored six goals and provided three assists in 21 appearances under Andoni Iraola this season, drawing Liverpool’s attention.
The Ghanaian forward, whose contract runs until June 2029, is reportedly valued at approximately £50 million.
However, a potential transfer might involve a Liverpool youngster heading to the south coast as part of a ‘swap deal.’ According to The Northern Echo, there are “strong suggestions” that Bournemouth is interested in signing Ben Doak, who is currently on loan at Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough.
Recent reports indicated that Liverpool was “reluctantly” prepared to consider offers of £25-30 million for the 19-year-old. Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town had previously seen bids of around £15 million rejected by the Merseyside club, as reported by Football Insider.
Including the Scotland international in a potential deal could enable Liverpool to secure one of their priority transfer targets at a reduced cost.
