Liverpool are in negotiations to sign a “genius” player following their interest in Jeremie Frimpong, and he could turn out to be the steal of the summer.

Liverpool are reportedly targeting another major signing after securing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

In Arne Slot’s first transfer window, the Reds made just one acquisition—Federico Chiesa, who arrived from Juventus in a budget-friendly move.

After Slot led Liverpool to their 20th league title in his debut season, the club is expected to back him significantly this summer with several new signings planned.

A key focus is finding a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Liverpool appear close to completing their first summer signing, with German outlet Kicker reporting that a €40 million deal for Frimpong is nearly finalized.

The former Manchester City youth product has been a standout for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, racking up 19 goals and 24 assists over the past two seasons from the right wing-back position. He is expected to sign a contract running until 2030.

However, Liverpool’s transfer activity likely won’t stop there.

According to Le Parisien, the club has inquired about Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, joining Manchester City and Tottenham in the pursuit of the 21-year-old, who has tallied 12 goals and 19 assists in 43 games this season.

Once dubbed a “genius,” Cherki nearly joined Manchester United at 15 and was close to signing with PSG last summer before opting instead for a move to Borussia Dortmund, though that deal fell through.

He eventually renewed with Lyon, but the club is now willing to let him go for just €22.5 million (£19 million) this summer, intensifying competition for his signature.

Cherki’s versatility across multiple attacking positions makes him a valuable asset for Liverpool’s evolving frontline.
