Liverpool are still in discussions with Crystal Palace over signing England centre-back Marc Guehi, but a deal doesn’t appear to be close at this stage.
According to CaughtOffside’s sources, Guehi is interested in making the move to Anfield, though there’s still a significant gap between what the two clubs believe he’s worth.
With just a year left on his contract, Guehi could leave Palace on a free transfer next summer, which complicates the club’s efforts to secure their desired fee of £45–50 million.
Liverpool, on the other hand, reportedly value Guehi at around £35–40 million and are eager to push the deal forward quickly.
It remains to be seen which club will make the first compromise in the negotiations. While Palace’s position is weakened by the contract situation, Liverpool may also feel no pressure to rush the deal.
This could result in a stalemate, with Palace potentially opting to keep Guehi for one more season despite the risk of losing him for free—especially as manager Oliver Glasner may struggle to find a suitable replacement this late in the window if the defender is sold for a lower fee.
For Liverpool, there’s added urgency due to Ibrahima Konate also being in the final year of his contract. Signing Guehi now would offer a low-risk solution to replacing Konate, rather than risking both players walking away for nothing next summer—and facing increased competition for Guehi’s signature if he hits the market as a free agent.
