Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign a player Tottenham targeted in January, though Spurs may still make another attempt

Liverpool have shown interest in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi during the current summer transfer window.

As per The Telegraph, the 24-year-old is expected to leave Palace in the coming weeks, with Liverpool emerging as frontrunners for his signature.

However, they’re not alone in the race—Tottenham Hotspur are also keen. Spurs had attempted to sign Guehi in January but were unsuccessful. Despite that setback, they remain interested and could come back with a fresh bid this summer.

Guehi would strengthen both sides’ defences
Both Liverpool and Tottenham are looking to reinforce their backlines, making Guehi an ideal target. Liverpool have dealt with injuries to Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté, and they sold Jarell Quansah earlier this summer. With Konaté entering the final year of his contract and rumored to be on his way out, defensive depth is a pressing issue.

Tottenham, too, may be preparing for change, as Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away. Guehi could serve as a solid replacement.

A potential bargain deal
The England international would be a smart signing for either club, especially as he’s expected to be available for a modest fee due to his contract situation—he becomes a free agent next summer, putting Crystal Palace under pressure to cash in now.

Guehi is also likely to prefer a move to a club competing for major honors, and Liverpool’s recent success and regular presence in title races could make them an appealing option.
