Liverpool announce two new signings as former Arsenal player joins and ex-Red makes Anfield comeback.

Liverpool’s summer activity isn’t limited to player transfers, with significant changes also occurring behind the scenes.

Around this time last year, Anfield saw major upheaval among the coaching staff as several members of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team exited, paving the way for Arne Slot to bring in his own trusted colleagues upon taking charge.

However, the 46-year-old has already seen some movement within his new setup, with assistant Johnny Heitinga leaving last month to take over as head coach at Ajax.

Liverpool Announce More Coaching Changes
The club has now confirmed additional updates to the backroom staff (via liverpoolfc.com), with two coaches departing and two new faces arriving.

Goalkeeping coaches Claudio Taffarel and Fabian Otte have left the club. Replacing them is Xavi Valero, who returns to Liverpool as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching, having previously worked at Anfield during Rafa Benitez’s tenure in the late 2000s.

Joining as assistant coach is former Barcelona and Arsenal defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who most recently managed Besiktas before departing seven months ago.

New Faces Bring Fresh Perspective
Liverpool’s goalkeeping setup is undergoing major transformation ahead of the 2025/26 season, both on and off the pitch. Caoimhin Kelleher has moved to Brentford, and Vitezslav Jaros is on loan at Ajax. New arrivals Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman bolster the goalkeeper ranks, while Valero steps in following a seven-year stint at West Ham.

Van Bronckhorst returns to an assistant coaching role after leading several clubs over the past decade, including Feyenoord, Guangzhou R&F, Rangers, and Besiktas. He notably won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in 2017 and guided Rangers to the Europa League final in 2022, though Liverpool fans may remember his side suffering a 7-1 defeat at Ibrox that same year.

His brief spell at Besiktas saw mixed results, winning half of his 20 games, though he started strongly with a 5-0 win over Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Cup.

Both Valero and Van Bronckhorst bring valuable experience to the table, and Liverpool will hope their arrival can help usher in a successful new era under Arne Slot.
