Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Robinho Junior, the son of former Manchester City and Real Madrid forward Robinho, and are closely monitoring his progress in Brazil, according to MailOnline journalist Lewis Steele.
Scouts from Liverpool have been attending multiple matches of Santos, the eight-time Brazilian champions, to track the development of the 17-year-old forward, who is on the cusp of breaking into the first team.
Liverpool scout Dassler Marques has observed several Santos games this season to evaluate the young talent, although Robinho Junior has had limited playing time this campaign. The left-winger has made only three substitute appearances in the Brazilian Serie A, totaling 52 minutes, and has been on the bench for the past eight matches.
Chelsea is also reported to be keeping a close watch on Robinho Junior, with their South American scouting team following his progress at Santos.
Robinho Junior is considered one of the brightest prospects emerging from the Santos academy, which has produced legends like Pele, Neymar, Rodrygo, and Gabriel Barbosa. He joined Santos’ youth system in May 2022 at the age of 14 and signed his first professional contract in August 2024.
He was promoted to the first-team squad in February and was given the number 7 jersey, famously worn by his father, who had three stints at Santos and earned 100 caps for Brazil.
Robinho Junior made his senior debut in July, coming off the bench in Santos’ 1-0 Serie A victory over Flamengo.
This summer, Liverpool bolstered their squad under manager Arne Slot with exciting signings such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez. They also secured Giovanni Leoni, an 18-year-old Italian centre-back from Parma, on a six-year deal. Leoni is viewed as one of Europe’s most promising defenders after making 17 Serie A appearances last season.
Liverpool set new transfer records twice this summer with the signings of Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the latter joining from Newcastle in a £125 million deal. In total, the Reds spent £415 million on eight new players, making them the biggest spenders worldwide this transfer window.
