Liverpool Consider Selling Luis Diaz Amid Transfer Interest
Despite playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win last season, Luis Diaz could be on his way out this summer. The Colombian winger, under contract until 2027, appears to be pushing for a move away from Anfield.
Barcelona have been strongly linked with Diaz, especially after failing to sign Nico Williams. However, they’re also eyeing Marcus Rashford. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are looking to bolster their attack following Leroy Sane’s departure and Jamal Musiala’s injury. According to German outlet BILD, Bayern have submitted a £44.8 million bid for Diaz, though this falls short of Liverpool’s asking price of £69.1 million, reportedly the figure set in a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ allowing Diaz to leave.
With the transfer window open until early September, there’s still time for negotiations. Diaz, who scored 13 goals and provided five assists last season, would need to be replaced if sold — prompting speculation about who Liverpool might bring in.
Potential Replacements for Luis Diaz
Anthony Gordon
Liverpool have previously shown strong interest in Anthony Gordon. The Newcastle winger, who joined from Everton in 2023, was instrumental in helping the Magpies secure a Champions League spot last season. His high work rate — averaging 1.2 tackles and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes — mirrors some of Diaz’s qualities.
Newcastle may consider selling Gordon, especially as they pursue Anthony Elanga and are linked to Jack Grealish. Gordon was reportedly open to a return to Merseyside, though prising him away would likely cost Liverpool around £100 million due to his recently signed long-term deal and homegrown status.
Rodrygo
Real Madrid are expected to part ways with Rodrygo, who has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by incoming manager Xabi Alonso. Liverpool and Arsenal are both said to be monitoring the Brazilian, who offers the positional flexibility Klopp (and now Arne Slot) values.
Rodrygo’s ability to play across the front line suits Slot’s system, which encourages wingers to cut inside to allow attacking full-backs to overlap. Given Liverpool’s new signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, this tactic aligns well. However, the Reds would need to beat out Arsenal to secure Rodrygo’s signature.
Malick Fofana
Though Lyon avoided relegation, they remain financially vulnerable — which has put winger Malick Fofana on the radar of several top clubs. The 20-year-old Belgian had five goals and four assists in 16 Ligue 1 starts, averaging 1.4 dribbles and 1.2 tackles per 90, indicating both offensive flair and defensive effort.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern are all reportedly tracking Fofana. Lyon are believed to be seeking £51.5 million, but that fee could drop due to their financial issues.
Kenan Yildiz
One of the few bright spots in a turbulent season for Juventus, Turkish attacker Kenan Yildiz impressed with seven goals and four assists. His standout quality is dribbling — he completed 59 dribbles last season, second only to Nico Paz in Serie A.
Despite Liverpool’s prior struggles with former Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, Yildiz’s potential makes him an intriguing target. Juventus value the 20-year-old at £84 million, a price reflective of the club’s belief in his future.
