Leverkusen make major offer to Liverpool for 22-year-old as centre-back negotiations hit a standstill with other clubs.

Liverpool may find themselves back in the market for a centre-back this summer as Jarell Quansah has emerged as a key target for Bayer Leverkusen.

German outlet Kicker reports that Leverkusen—last season’s Bundesliga runners-up—are making a strong push to sign the 22-year-old, identifying him as their preferred replacement for Jonathan Tah, who recently joined Bayern Munich.

Quansah, who made 25 appearances across all competitions last season and played a role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win under Arne Slot, is currently with England at the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia.

However, back at club level, negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen are reportedly progressing. The potential deal could exceed €30 million, which would make Quansah the most expensive defensive signing in Leverkusen’s history.

Liverpool’s defensive depth could be further tested

The move comes amid growing uncertainty in Liverpool’s defensive ranks.

Ibrahima Konaté is demanding a 40% salary increase, and talks over a new contract are currently stalled. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is attracting interest from other Premier League sides, which could leave manager Arne Slot with limited options heading into his second season.

Although Quansah has yet to speak publicly about the transfer speculation, his standout performances have clearly put him on Leverkusen’s radar as their primary defensive target.

If the transfer goes ahead, it would continue a trend of business between the two clubs—Jeremie Frimpong has already joined Liverpool earlier in the window, and Florian Wirtz, for whom a deal has reportedly been struck, has also been heavily linked.

As a result, Liverpool may be forced to act swiftly. The club has also been linked with Brentford’s Nathan Collins, a 24-year-old Irish international who played every minute of the Premier League season.
