Kolo Muani: Strong Spurs Form Key to Reviving World Cup Dream
A run of positive performances at Tottenham earned Randal Kolo Muani a recall to the France squad for last month’s international camp, writes George Sessions of the Press Association.
Kolo Muani knows that delivering consistent displays and goals for Spurs is the only way to keep his World Cup ambitions alive. The forward featured for France at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he came agonisingly close to scoring a late winner in the final before Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez denied him, moments before France went on to lose on penalties.
Despite securing a move to Paris Saint-Germain six months later, limited playing time saw Kolo Muani fall out of favour at international level. However, his encouraging form for Tottenham prompted Didier Deschamps to recall him last month, although a fractured jaw prevented him from featuring.
With the 2026 World Cup just six months away, Kolo Muani stressed that his immediate focus remains on his loan spell at Spurs, who face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
He said he feels settled within the squad and is determined to perform well for the club, insisting that strong performances and goals are essential if he is to force his way into France’s World Cup plans.
Winning more matches and maintaining high standards, he added, are non-negotiable for both Tottenham and his international hopes.
Tottenham have endured a difficult spell under Thomas Frank, sitting 14th at Christmas, but Kolo Muani’s energy and movement have quickly won over the supporters. This week, he also joined the club’s One Hotspur Junior Christmas Party at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, describing the experience as special and praising the joy it brought to the children.
The French international said he feels the backing of the fans on matchdays and expressed his happiness at the warm reception he has received since arriving.
Kolo Muani also voiced his support for Frank amid criticism from sections of the fanbase, highlighting their strong relationship and regular communication, and noting his confidence in the manager and coaching staff.
