Kai Havertz’s wife was sent vile threats about her unborn baby after Arsenal had been knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United on Sunday. The third round tie was decided by a penalty shootout, with Havertz missing the Gunners’ second spot kick.
Havertz began dating his partner in 2018 when he was still playing for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
And the couple got married in front of friends and family last summer in a ceremony that took place at a country manor.
Havertz’s wife Sophia, who is pregnant with the Germany international’s child, took to Instagram to share the vile messages after they had been sent to her on the same platform.
“I hope you have a miscarriage,” read the first message. And the second one said: “I’m going to come to your house and s*******r your baby.”
Alluding to the first post, Mrs Havertz wrote to her followers: “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself.”
And after sharing the second message, she penned: “I’m not sure what to even say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this.”
Arsenal will be hugely disappointed that they weren’t able to overcome United at the Emirates Stadium, with the visitors forced to play the last half an hour of normal time as well as extra-time with 10 men after Diogo Dalot had been dismissed for a second bookable offence.
The Red Devils nudged ahead seven minutes into the second half as Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a slip by Gabriel, before advancing with the ball and teeing-up Bruno Fernandes.
But the Gunners equalised through Gabriel moments after Dalot was given his marching orders. And the north London giants attempted to make the most of their extra player as they camped inside the final third and searched for a route to goal.
United held firm as goalkeeper Altay Bayindir pulled off a string of top-class saves, however. And after the shot-stopper had kept out Havertz’s penalty in the shootout, Joshua Zirkzee dispatched the winning kick.
