Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is reportedly posing a threat to Arsenal’s transfer plans.
Klopp stepped down from his role at Liverpool in 2024, ending a successful nine-year tenure at Anfield. During his time in charge, he led the club to several major trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League.
After departing Liverpool, Klopp assumed a new role as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull organization. This position involves overseeing football operations across the Red Bull-owned clubs, including RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg.
One of Leipzig’s standout players, striker Benjamin Šeško, has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal in the Premier League.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported: “Arsenal are now progressing in negotiations for Benjamin Šeško following earlier confirmed talks. Discussions are ongoing and positive between all parties involved — the player and both clubs.
“However, there is no agreement in place yet, and nothing is expected to be finalized this weekend.”
Meanwhile, according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Šeško was also offered to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, the club decided against pursuing the striker.
The outlet reported: “In this context, Sesko does not fit. Despite his potential, the high transfer fee has been a key factor in Real Madrid’s decision to pass on the deal.”
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez was also quoted saying: “He is not the type of player we are looking for.”
In addition to Madrid, both Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also believed to have turned down the opportunity to sign Šeško.
Currently, Arsenal appear to be the club showing the strongest interest.
Journalist Ben Jacobs noted: “Arsenal remain in talks with Leipzig regarding Benjamin Šeško and may submit a formal bid soon. Šeško is interested in joining Arsenal.
“Viktor Gyökeres is also being considered, as Arsenal’s Andrea Berta looks to explore several targets before making an official move. That said, discussions over Šeško are more advanced. Arsenal believe either Šeško or Gyökeres could be signed for around €70 million.
“Gyökeres is still open to a move to Manchester United even without Champions League football, although United have yet to make a formal approach to Sporting.”
