Crystal Palace and Liverpool are competing in today’s Community Shield match at Wembley, which included a minute’s silence to honor Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in an accident earlier this summer.
Before the match began, both teams paid tribute to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who also died in a car accident in Spain in July.
During the minute’s silence held in memory of the brothers, reports from Wembley indicate that a small group of Crystal Palace fans disrupted the moment by booing.
In response, Liverpool has retired Jota’s number 20 shirt as a mark of respect and will continue to honor his contract.

Liverpool currently lead Crystal Palace in the Community Shield match. Although the rivalry between the clubs is understandable, the behavior of a minority of Palace supporters has disappointed both Liverpool fans and neutral observers.
At the time of writing, Crystal Palace trail Liverpool 1-2, with goals from Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong giving Liverpool the advantage. It remains to be seen if Liverpool can maintain their lead and secure the Shield.
Liverpool have appeared the stronger side so far, dominating much of the game, and Arne Slot can be pleased with the performance of his new signings.
