Arsenal transfer target Jobe Bellingham has expressed his admiration for playing at the Stadium of Light following Sunderland’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on Wednesday, January 1.
BBC journalist Con Harrison reports that Arsenal have repeatedly sent scouts to monitor the 19-year-old this season, potentially planning a summer move. Manager Mikel Arteta is said to value Bellingham’s ball-carrying skills and sees him as a player with the potential to surpass his brother Jude’s performances.
Bellingham played the full match as Sunderland, fielding the youngest team in the Championship, secured an important three points against promotion rivals Sheffield United. Despite a strong start to the season, Sunderland currently sits fourth in the league table with 47 points from 25 games, trailing leaders Leeds United by five points.
The young midfielder has been instrumental for Sunderland this season, starting all 22 of his appearances across competitions, contributing four goals and three assists in 1,948 minutes of play.
Bellingham appears unaffected by transfer speculation, celebrating the Sheffield United win on Instagram by saying, “Crucial win, massive team effort. Nothing but a pleasure to play here, in front of the best.”
Sunderland will aim to maintain their promotion push with a match against Portsmouth on Sunday, January 5, while Arsenal faces Brighton on Saturday, January 4, as they continue their pursuit of league leaders Liverpool.
