Jeremie Frimpong Reflects on Anfield Atmosphere After Liverpool Move
Jeremie Frimpong described Anfield as the most impressive stadium he played in during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, speaking publicly for the first time since signing with Liverpool.
Liverpool confirmed their first acquisition of the summer on Friday, unveiling Frimpong’s arrival just shortly after the official announcement of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid.
In his introductory interview, Frimpong shared his excitement and eagerness to complete the move once he learned of Liverpool’s interest.
“When I was with Leverkusen, Anfield stood out as the best stadium I played in — the crowd, the energy, the team — everything was just top class,” he said. “You can’t question Liverpool’s quality. They’ve won the league, and facing them with Leverkusen was always a tough challenge. We were a strong side too, but Liverpool just felt like a different level.”
Frimpong, who previously joined Manchester City’s academy as a youngster despite early Liverpool interest — due to City being more accessible logistically — reflected on his journey.
“As a kid, you dream of playing for the biggest clubs. Liverpool showed interest early on, and it made sense then, but due to travel issues and such, I took a different path. Now, things have come full circle, and it’s worked out perfectly.”
He said talks with Liverpool were straightforward, and once their interest became known, his mind was made up.
“Everything was smooth. As soon as Liverpool came forward, I told my agents, ‘Whatever it takes, just get it done.’ I’m here to give my all — my effort, my energy — and I hope we’ll win and celebrate together with the fans. I truly appreciate being welcomed, and I promise to bring the intensity the supporters expect.”
Speaking about new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, Frimpong shared his enthusiasm after a series of encouraging conversations.
“The manager sounds really upbeat. He talked about how I could contribute with my pace and energy, and when a coach believes in you like that, it builds confidence. I’ve heard great things about him — even players from the national team who worked with him at Feyenoord would say, ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had.’ Now he’s my coach, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
