Man United vs. Arsenal: Injury-Hit Rivals Set for Key Clash
This weekend’s biggest Premier League matchup—at least on paper—features Manchester United taking on Arsenal. While United have endured a disappointing season and Arsenal are likely out of the title race, the historic rivalry between the two clubs could still provide an exciting contest.
However, both teams are struggling with injury issues. United are without key players such as Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, and Jonny Evans, with Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte also doubtful for the match.
Arsenal are dealing with their own setbacks, with Mikel Arteta missing several attacking stars at a crucial stage of the season. Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli are all sidelined with long-term injuries.
Martinelli Travels With Arsenal Squad to Manchester
In a potential boost for the Gunners, one of their injured players has been spotted traveling with the squad to Manchester. Footage circulating online suggests that Gabriel Martinelli has made the trip, raising hopes of an earlier-than-expected return.
While it’s unclear whether he will feature in the match, his presence is a positive sign for Arsenal. The Brazilian was initially not expected to return until after the March international break, with early April set as a more realistic comeback date.
Mikel Arteta recently provided an update on Martinelli and other injured players, saying:
“I think so [back after the international break], but we have to see how they progress in the coming weeks. They’ve been out for a long time, so we will need to reintegrate them gradually.”
“They’re improving, but they still have some way to go. We have a meeting tomorrow to assess their status, especially Gabi, who might return before Bukayo. But how soon? We’ll have to see.”
Arsenal face Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend, followed by a Champions League clash with PSV and a league match against Chelsea before the international break. They resume action on April 1 with a home fixture against Fulham.
