PSV Eindhoven 1-7 Arsenal: Live Reaction as Gunners Make Champions League History
Arsenal delivered a record-breaking performance in the Champions League, thrashing PSV 7-1 to virtually secure their place in the quarter-finals.
The Gunners netted seven goals in Europe’s top competition for only the second time in their history. In doing so, they became the first team ever to score seven goals away from home in the knockout stages.
This emphatic victory came after Mikel Arteta’s side had failed to score in their previous two Premier League matches against West Ham and Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal took control early, racing to a 3-0 lead within 31 minutes thanks to goals from Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, and Mikel Merino.
PSV pulled one back before halftime through Noa Lang’s penalty, but Arsenal quickly extended their dominance with two more goals shortly after the break.
Martin Odegaard grabbed his second of the night in the 73rd minute, bringing Arsenal’s tally to six, before substitute Riccardo Calafiori capped off the historic rout 12 minutes later.
