Liverpool have been informed about what it will take to finalize a deal for Newcastle United’s standout forward, Alexander Isak.
On July 28, Football Insider reported that Liverpool are growing increasingly confident about signing Isak, having made him a key target this summer.
A formal offer is expected soon at St James’ Park, following an initial approach by Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot’s team two weeks ago. Newcastle value their star player at around £150 million.
The Swedish international, who scored 27 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances last season, has expressed to Newcastle his desire to pursue a transfer this summer.
Financial expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider exclusively that Newcastle might consider a bid of about £130 million upfront plus £20 million in add-ons.
Meanwhile, Saudi club Al-Hilal is said to have shown interest in the 25-year-old, but no official contact has been made with Newcastle or their manager Eddie Howe.
Regarding a potential move to Saudi Arabia, Borson believes Isak is unlikely to be interested.
He said: “I think Isak’s move is centered on Liverpool. The main question is whether Liverpool are willing to pay £150 million, and if Newcastle are ready to accept it.
“I doubt Newcastle would sell for less than £140 million plus add-ons. Why would they? If I were Newcastle, I’d stand firm. I wouldn’t accept £120 million, but maybe a £130 million base plus £20 million add-ons could work.
“I don’t see Isak going to Al-Hilal; I don’t think he’d want to move to Saudi Arabia at 25, and Newcastle probably wouldn’t want to deal with the financial fair play complications that come with such a transfer.
“That said, I’m not sure Newcastle are eager to accept Liverpool’s offer either, but if the price is right and the player is determined to leave, it could happen — and Liverpool are clearly pushing for it.”
Regarding other transfer plans at Anfield, Football Insider revealed on July 10 that Liverpool remain interested in signing Anthony Gordon and are preparing a late-summer bid.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Liverpool will intensify their pursuit of Gordon once Luis Diaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich is confirmed.
The Newcastle winger has been a long-term Liverpool target and nearly joined the club last summer.
