Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott is poised to earn a chance to secure a spot in manager Arne Slot’s starting lineup as the club prepares to part ways with winger Luis Diaz.
Elliott shone at the Under-21 European Championship, playing a key role in England’s 3-2 victory over Germany in the final and helping the young Three Lions defend their title.
The 22-year-old’s impressive performances have drawn interest from several Premier League clubs as he looks for more consistent first-team opportunities.
Currently on a pre-season tour in Asia, Elliott appeared in Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong.
Opportunity Arises for Elliott
Though Elliott has shown flashes of brilliance at Liverpool, he may now get a longer run in the side following the acceptance of Bayern Munich’s offer for Diaz.
Diaz, a crucial part of Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, is leaving for a new challenge in Germany, opening up a spot Elliott will be eager to claim during pre-season and ahead of the Reds’ first league game in just over two weeks.
With Mohamed Salah almost untouchable on the right wing and new signing Florian Wirtz best suited to the number 10 role, Elliott must seize the chance to establish himself on the left wing to secure his future at Liverpool.
Slot’s Winger Dilemma
Manager Arne Slot has already invested over £200 million this summer, and with the possible £150 million signing of Alexander Isak, there may be limited funds to replace Diaz.
Elliott has shown he can step into Diaz’s shoes, and after his standout performances at the Euros, the former Fulham academy player deserves a shot.
