Harvey Elliott has been linked with a surprising move to an unexpected club as his time at Liverpool appears to be nearing its end.
The 22-year-old midfielder is highly regarded among Liverpool supporters because of his deep affection for the club.
Elliott, an English player, has openly shared that he is a lifelong Liverpool fan and would remain with the team indefinitely if possible.
Back in June, he stated: “Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, the fans, the team. I support them too. But ultimately, it’s about what’s best for my career.”
Despite this, a lack of consistent playing time has prompted Elliott to consider leaving Anfield this summer.
He has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Tottenham Hotspur.
On Tuesday night, reports emerged that German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have entered the race to sign Elliott.
David Ornstein from The Athletic tweeted: “RB Leipzig speaking to Liverpool about possible move for Harvey Elliott. Situation at early stage but #RBLeipzig exploring + clubs talking. 22yo #LFC midfielder seen as potential replacement for Xavi Simmons.”
Liverpool are said to be open to offers above £40 million if they include a buy-back clause, but would demand around £50 million without one.
Elliott showcased his talent during the recent U-21 European Championship, earning Player of the Tournament honors after scoring five goals and helping England retain their title.
On Monday, he possibly scored his final goal for Liverpool in a 4-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at Anfield.
He was also seen applauding the fans and blowing kisses toward The Kop, gestures some supporters interpreted as a farewell.
Arne Slot’s side returns to action this weekend, facing Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley.
Liverpool will then kick off their Premier League title defense against Bournemouth at Anfield on August 15.
