Liverpool secured their spot at the top of the Premier League with a dominant 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur, putting them four points ahead of Chelsea. After the victory, Reds midfielder Ryan Gravenberch revealed that they had specifically targeted one Spurs player during the match.
While Tottenham’s James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke all scored, Liverpool’s goal fest, which included braces from Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, proved too much for Spurs. Despite facing criticism for his tactics, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou stuck to his methods, but his defense was torn apart by the fast-paced attacking play of Liverpool.
With key defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero absent due to injuries, Postecoglou was forced to field a makeshift defense consisting of Pedro Porro, Radu Dragusin, Archie Gray, and Djed Spence. This weakened defensive setup was exploited by Liverpool, who capitalized on their speed, an area where Dragusin and Gray particularly struggled.
Gravenberch, who is considered one of the top midfielders in world football, was pivotal in Liverpool’s dominant display. Speaking after the game, the Dutchman explained their tactical approach and singled out Dragusin as a weak link they aimed to exploit. “We had a good game plan, focusing on pressing the right center-back, and by the end, I think we executed it well.”
Dragusin, 22, played the full 90 minutes despite his subpar performance, winning just 33% of his duels and failing to make any tackles. With January’s transfer window approaching, his lackluster showing could raise concerns, especially since he has already played 22 games in all competitions this season.
