Giovanni Leoni turns down two Premier League clubs that attempted to hijack his move to Liverpool.

Giovanni Leoni reportedly declined offers from two Premier League clubs before choosing to join Liverpool.

It’s been widely reported that Liverpool are close to signing the Italy U19 international for about £26 million.

The 18-year-old featured 17 times for Parma in his first Serie A season, starting in 14 matches.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed an agreement with Parma but didn’t provide further details about the transfer.

“The clubs have agreed terms, but he hasn’t officially signed for us yet,” Slot said. “Once he does, I can share more information.”

Liverpool have been aiming to strengthen their defense following the £35 million sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen last month.

According to The Times, Liverpool outpaced several European clubs to secure Leoni’s signing.

The defender was reportedly sought after by Inter Milan and AC Milan, while Manchester United and Newcastle United also showed late interest.

Leoni will join Liverpool’s first-team centre-back lineup alongside Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez.

Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi praised the young Italian’s potential in Gazzetta dello Sport, stating, “I’m sure he’ll be a key player for the Azzurri defense for many years.

“Some question if 17 Serie A appearances are enough experience for a move to Liverpool. I disagree. In those matches, Leoni has shown the qualities required to succeed.

“A player’s ability and mindset are evident early on. Someone can have hundreds of Serie A games but still lack the talent Leoni displayed in his debut season. Talent doesn’t depend on age.”
