Charlie Adam, 39, has been appointed Everton’s new set-piece coach, while Alan Irvine has reunited with David Moyes for his third stint as the manager’s assistant.
Adam joins Goodison Park just a month after a brief managerial spell at League Two side Fleetwood Town, where he won 14 of 49 matches before his tenure ended on December 22.
The former Scotland international gained prominence during Blackpool’s memorable 2010-11 Premier League campaign, captaining Ian Holloway’s side as they narrowly missed out on survival in their only top-flight season.
Known for his exceptional set-piece delivery, Adam earned a move to Liverpool in 2011 following Blackpool’s relegation. However, he made just 37 appearances for the Reds before transferring to Stoke City, where he enjoyed a more successful Premier League career.
Over seven seasons with Stoke, Adam played 179 matches and remained with the club following their relegation in 2018. He later had stints with Reading and Dundee before retiring in 2022.
The 26-time Scotland international joins an Everton side currently 16th in the Premier League, seven points above the relegation zone.
Moyes expressed confidence in Adam’s coaching abilities, stating in a club statement: “Charlie is someone I have had several chats with since rejoining the club. He will be helping with set-piece situations, an area he excelled in as a player and one I believe he can really help us with now as a coach.”
Adam will be on the sidelines when Everton face his former club Liverpool at Goodison Park for the final time next month.
