Former Liverpool Player ‘Continuing to Suffer’ After Stabbing Incident

A former Liverpool player has spoken out about his experience in a terrifying stabbing incident.

In 2020, it emerged that Andre Wisdom, a former Liverpool academy graduate and then Derby County player, was stabbed during a robbery.

According to the BBC, Wisdom, who was 27 at the time, was attacked by four masked assailants who stole his designer watch. He was visiting family in Liverpool when he was reportedly stabbed in the head and lower body.

Fortunately, his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Wisdom progressed through Liverpool’s youth system and made 22 first-team appearances for the club. He played alongside notable players like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez before transferring to Derby County in 2017.

Three years after the attack, Wisdom has opened up about how the stabbing affected him. Speaking to the BBC, he said the incident “definitely changed” the course of his career.

He explained, “Who knows where I’d be playing now if I hadn’t been stabbed. It didn’t ruin my career, but it certainly altered it.”

Wisdom revealed, “I still experience pain from the stabbing to this day. I shouldn’t have been there,” referring to a house party he attended prior to the attack.

“I should have been resting at home after a game, but because of lockdown, I wanted to get out,” he added.

He described the attack: “As I was leaving the party alone, walking to my car, I encountered about five men wearing balaclavas and carrying knives. They demanded my watch. I refused, and a fight broke out. I didn’t have time to escape. I should have been smarter, but pride got in the way.”

“I managed to drive home, which took around 15-20 minutes. Adrenaline kept me going, but once home I realized I had been stabbed multiple times. I looked at my thigh and saw the muscle nearly hanging out of the wound. That’s when I called an ambulance.”

Now 32, Wisdom plays part-time for FC United of Manchester, a club in the seventh tier of English football.
