Liverpool fans hoping for more transfer excitement beyond the expected arrival of Hugo Ekitike have reason to be optimistic—Fabrizio Romano has teased further signings on the horizon.
Unlike recent summers, Liverpool have made a powerful statement in the transfer market this year. They’ve already secured deals for Giorgi Mamardashvili (completed in 2024), Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, spending over £170 million in total.
That total is expected to soar past £250 million once the £79 million signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike becomes official. The 23-year-old is flying to England today for a medical with the Premier League champions.
With the transfer window open until the end of August, Liverpool still have time to bring in more players—and Romano believes they will do just that.
Romano hints at more Liverpool additions
On Tuesday morning, the well-known transfer journalist posted an image to Instagram showing Kerkez, Wirtz, Ekitike, and Frimpong digitally edited into Liverpool shirts. He led with a bold five-word message: “Liverpool are not done yet! 💣👀”
Romano added that additional signings are “expected soon” once Ekitike’s move is wrapped up, and asked followers to rate Liverpool’s summer transfer business on a scale of 1 to 10.
Where could Liverpool still strengthen?
Once Ekitike’s arrival is confirmed, Liverpool’s squad will appear mostly complete—especially in terms of the starting XI—though that could change if players leave in the coming weeks.
Currently, the most pressing concern is depth at centre-back. According to The Athletic’s Gregg Evans, head coach Arne Slot would ideally like to bring in another central defender to ensure competition across every position.
David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool are interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Palace more open to selling him now rather than losing him for free when his contract expires next year.
For now, centre-back seems the most likely focus for the rest of the window, but future departures could shift Liverpool’s strategy.
Regardless of what happens before the deadline, it’s already been an impressive summer of spending for the league champions—and Romano’s post suggests the excitement isn’t over yet.
