Fabrizio Romano provides update on Liverpool transfer target: “His main focus is Arsenal”

Fabrizio Romano has clarified Liverpool’s stance on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, indicating that despite speculation linking the Swedish international to Anfield, no talks are currently taking place between the player and the club.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano confirmed that while Liverpool admire Gyökeres, the forward is currently more interested in a move to Arsenal if he decides to leave Sporting this summer.

Liverpool’s supposed pursuit of Gyökeres emerged amid an ambitious transfer window under new manager Arne Slot, following their Premier League title win. The club has already made major signings, including Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, to bolster their squad for both domestic defense and European competition.

However, Arsenal appear to be ahead in the race for Gyökeres, who has had an outstanding season in Portugal. Although uncertainty surrounds Darwin Núñez’s future, Liverpool may end up pursuing other striker options, as Gyökeres currently favors a switch to their Premier League rivals.

Romano stated:

> “I’m not aware of contacts ongoing for Gyökeres at this stage. His priority now is Arsenal; then we will see later in the window.”

With Manchester United also showing interest—due to Gyökeres’ past connection with Sporting boss Rúben Amorim—it seems Liverpool could miss out on a top talent, a situation some might attribute to the post-Klopp transition.
