Arsenal are currently dealing with an injury crisis in their attacking lineup, but according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, there are no concrete or advanced negotiations regarding the signing of a free-agent striker.
Their Premier League title ambitions have taken a significant hit due to multiple injuries in attack, fueling discussions about whether they should reinforce their squad. Their recent 1-0 defeat to West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium not only harmed their title hopes but also exposed their struggles in the forward line.
With limited attacking options, Mikel Merino was deployed as a centre-forward, but the Spanish midfielder failed to make a notable impact.
Arsenal’s Search for a Free-Agent Striker: No Progress Yet
Romano has reiterated that Arsenal have not made any significant moves to bring in a free-agent striker. However, he notes that Gabriel Martinelli is edging closer to a return from injury, which could reduce the urgency of signing a new forward.
“As of now, there is still nothing concrete or advanced regarding a striker. Let’s see if an opportunity arises, but I’m told the situation remains quiet, and Martinelli’s return is approaching,” Romano stated.
The Gunners’ latest setback came with Kai Havertz being ruled out for the remainder of the season. The German international, who had been Arsenal’s main option at centre-forward, recently underwent surgery on his hamstring.
Havertz isn’t the only key attacker sidelined—Gabriel Jesus is out with a knee injury, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are both recovering from hamstring issues, with expected returns not until at least March.
Following Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham, Liverpool took advantage by defeating Manchester City 2-0, extending their lead at the top of the table to 11 points. With the title race slipping further out of reach, the need for reinforcements in attack is becoming increasingly urgent.
