Liverpool Close in on Signing Marc Guehi After Agreeing Personal Terms
Liverpool are reportedly moving closer to securing a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, having already agreed personal terms with the England international. Guehi is also being linked with a switch to Anfield alongside Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The Reds have been active in the summer transfer window, already landing Bayer Leverkusen stars Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz for a combined £145 million — with Wirtz alone breaking a Premier League transfer fee record at £116 million. Other arrivals include Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, as Arne Slot reshapes the squad. Isak is also said to be pushing for a move, reportedly refusing to play for Newcastle until a transfer materializes, with Liverpool valuing the striker at around £120 million.
According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), Liverpool have finalized personal terms with Guehi, who is under contract at Crystal Palace until next summer. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with a potential fee of £35 million being discussed. A deal could be completed soon, while young Parma defender Giovanni Leoni is also being monitored as a long-term option at centre-back.
Guehi’s reputation has soared following standout performances alongside John Stones for England at EURO 2024, where the team conceded just four goals en route to a narrow final defeat to Spain. His consistent form for Palace, capped by FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs this year — the latter against Liverpool — has only strengthened his case for a move.
Currently, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté are the first-choice centre-back pairing at Liverpool, but with Konaté linked to a potential transfer to Real Madrid, Guehi could be brought in as a key figure in Slot’s backline, aiming for sustained success on Merseyside.
