Darwin Núñez Faces Uncertain Future Amid Liverpool’s Pursuit of Florian Wirtz
Darwin Núñez’s future at Liverpool remains unclear, with the Uruguayan attracting considerable interest from clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia as the summer transfer window approaches.
David Ornstein recently included the 25-year-old among a list of seven players who could realistically depart Anfield in the coming months. Any high-profile signing—such as the potential acquisition of Florian Wirtz—would likely require Liverpool to make some sales to balance the books.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have submitted an initial formal offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz, reportedly exceeding €100 million (£83.9m).
Liverpool Exploring Nunez-Wirtz Swap Deal
Sources close to Empire of the Kop claim that Núñez is seeking a new challenge this summer, with his agent actively assessing opportunities away from Liverpool. Ongoing talks suggest that a possible swap deal involving Núñez and Wirtz is on the table, as Liverpool look to offset the high valuation Leverkusen have set for their German star—estimated between €130m and €150m (£109m–£125.8m).
Should the swap not materialize, other clubs—such as Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and Saudi sides Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli—remain keen on signing Liverpool’s number 9.
Could a Nunez-Wirtz Deal Work Out?
Given Núñez’s challenging season—scoring only seven goals in 47 appearances—Liverpool may see this summer as an opportune time to sell, especially with strong demand for a player nearing his peak at 26 years old.
Liverpool’s first choice might still be a cash-only bid for Wirtz. However, if their valuation falls short of Leverkusen’s asking price, including Núñez as part of a player-plus-cash deal could become a strategic option.
If Núñez does leave, Liverpool might look to leverage his value to help secure Wirtz, assuming both the player and Leverkusen are open to the idea. Regardless of the outcome, the situation remains one of the more intriguing transfer narratives to watch this summer.
