Liverpool have reportedly expressed interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike as they look to strengthen their attacking options. This follows a dip in form from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota during the 2024/25 season.
Ekitike, in contrast, has been in excellent form, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions. His goal contribution rate compares favorably to Liverpool’s current forwards.
Liverpool Face Competition for Ekitike
Despite their interest, Liverpool’s admiration for Ekitike does not appear as strong as their reported pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. However, the 22-year-old remains a highly regarded talent, as noted by Florian Plettenberg.
Securing Ekitike’s signature may prove difficult, with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United also monitoring his progress.
A Viable Alternative to Alexander Isak
Given that Isak’s price tag could exceed £100m, Liverpool’s recruitment team might consider alternative options. While the Swedish striker is a proven Premier League goal scorer, his cost and injury history present challenges.
Statistically, Ekitike offers a similar profile to Isak. According to FBref, Isak is the second-most comparable player to Ekitike, just behind Omar Marmoush.
While Ekitike still has room for development, his numbers suggest he could be a viable alternative to Isak for Liverpool.
