Everton haven’t added a senior men’s player from Liverpool to their squad since 1992, when the late Gary Ablett made the switch across Stanley Park. However, that decades-long streak could be nearing its end.
The last direct transfer between the two Merseyside rivals came when Abel Xavier moved from Goodison Park to Anfield, and such deals have been rare ever since.
Now, a new report suggests that David Moyes is monitoring a current member of Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad.
Everton Among Clubs Interested in Quansah
According to CaughtOffside, Everton are one of six clubs showing interest in Jarell Quansah. Liverpool may be open to offers for the 22-year-old defender in the region of €35m (£30m).
Newcastle, Brentford, and Bournemouth are also in the mix from the Premier League, while German sides Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen—managed by ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso—are also named as potential suitors.
Liverpool Unlikely to Sell Quansah to Everton
This aligns with a recent update from Fabrizio Romano, who noted Quansah has started just two league matches under Arne Slot and hasn’t featured since December 4. He was even overlooked in favour of Curtis Jones at right-back during a period when both Conor Bradley and Trent Alexander-Arnold were sidelined.
At his age, Quansah may understandably be tempted to seek more regular game time elsewhere. Still, he remains a valued squad member at Anfield, and Slot recently said the defender has “outgrown being called a talent.”
Teammate Alexis Mac Allister also recently praised Quansah as “amazing” and “so important for the team.” Given Liverpool’s defensive injury troubles this season, letting go of the young centre-back without lining up a quality replacement would be risky for the club’s hierarchy.
While a summer departure for Quansah isn’t off the table, a move to Everton seems highly unlikely. Liverpool would also be reluctant to strengthen any direct Premier League rivals like Newcastle, who are pushing for a top-four finish.
Ideally, Quansah will play a meaningful role in the remainder of the season and convince Liverpool to hold onto him—unless he’s set on seeking opportunities elsewhere.
