Konaté Injury Concerns Eased by Positive France Training Update
Liverpool fans were left worried when Ibrahima Konaté limped off late in the 1-0 victory over Arsenal. However, fresh updates from the French national team have helped ease those fears.
Following the match, head coach Arne Slot initially played down the issue, telling liverpoolfc.com, “He thinks it’s just cramp, and I’ve no reason to doubt him—though sometimes cramp turns out to be more after a scan.” Slot also referenced a recent situation with Jeremie Frimpong, who thought he had minor discomfort but ended up sidelined for several weeks.
Naturally, Slot’s cautious tone caused some concern, especially considering Konaté’s injury history and the club’s failed attempt to sign Marc Guehi on deadline day.
To add to the uncertainty, Konaté—now in the final year of his contract—reportedly declined a summer move to Saudi Arabia in hopes of securing a long-term future at Liverpool.
Fortunately, reassuring news came from the official France national team account on X, which shared images of Konaté fully participating in training, including duels with new Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike. Their caption read: “No gifts between teammates in the club AND in the national team!”—a welcome sign for Reds fans.
Meanwhile, Ekitike, who joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, expressed his excitement at joining the senior France setup:
“It’s going well. I’m getting to know everyone here. There are a lot of familiar faces,” he said. “It’s a special moment—no pressure, just enjoyment.”
As the international break continues, Liverpool supporters and Slot will be hoping all players, including Alexander Isak—who has also expressed fitness concerns—return injury-free, especially with Burnley coming up next and squad depth already stretched after a hectic transfer window.
