Eddie Howe has added more uncertainty around Alexander Isak’s future, as Liverpool continue to push for his signature.
The Swedish striker stirred speculation after skipping Newcastle United’s pre-season tour of Asia and choosing instead to train at his former club, Real Sociedad.
Liverpool have shown serious interest with a £110 million bid for the 25-year-old—an offer Newcastle turned down.
Isak has since returned to train with the Magpies, but it’s still unclear whether he’ll feature in their preparations for the 2025/26 season.
Howe unsure about Isak’s pre-season involvement
There still appears to be a rift between Isak and Newcastle, with no signs of a resolution anytime soon.
In remarks shared by journalist Ben Jacobs on X (formerly Twitter), Howe admitted he’s uncertain whether the striker will take part in the remainder of pre-season training.
Will Liverpool increase their offer?
It seems unlikely that Liverpool will walk away after a single rejected bid, especially with Newcastle holding out for around £150 million.
Despite the club’s public suggestion that they hope to pair Isak with target Benjamin Šeško—just as they once claimed with Hugo Ekitike—it appears more realistic that Šeško is being lined up as Isak’s replacement.
If Newcastle do manage to land the Slovenian (a challenge, with Manchester United also interested), it could speed up Isak’s potential move to Anfield.
That is, of course, if both clubs can agree on a fee.
