Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has given a significant update on Alexander Isak amid speculation that Liverpool are preparing a world-record bid.
Despite Liverpool’s recent expensive signings of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, the club seems far from finished in the transfer market.
Following the sale of star forward Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for a reported £65.5 million, Liverpool are reportedly keen to strengthen their attack further, with Newcastle’s Isak seen as the ideal target.
Reports suggest Liverpool are ready to offer around £130 million—a world-record fee—for the Swedish international, who has left Newcastle’s pre-season camp in an effort to secure a move to Anfield.
Now, Newcastle’s manager Howe has shared his latest thoughts on Isak’s future.
Speaking at a press conference in Seoul ahead of their pre-season match against K-League XI on Tuesday afternoon, Howe addressed the rumors surrounding Isak.
He reaffirmed that the player remains under contract and the club still holds control over what happens next.
He said: “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is he stays and we see him playing again next year.”
Howe also confirmed he has not yet had detailed discussions with club officials about Isak’s situation.
He added: “No, I haven’t. Mainly because I’ve been travelling and focusing on training today. These trips are always intense. Of course, I’m in minimal contact with people back home when I’m away.”
