Darwin Nunez set to depart Liverpool in a major transfer after a huge fee is reportedly agreed with a surprising club, which will also lead to another player being dropped.

Fabrizio Romano has shared a major update regarding Liverpool star Darwin Nunez’s future.

Since the end of the 2024/25 season, Nunez’s next move has been a hot topic.

This summer, the 26-year-old has been linked with several clubs, including Napoli, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Al Nassr.

So far, no transfer has happened due to Liverpool’s high asking price, reportedly around €70 million (£61 million).

However, Nunez appears to be getting closer to leaving Anfield.

Romano reports that Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal have made Nunez their top target and are nearing an agreement.

He posted on social media: “EXCLUSIVE: Al Hilal are close to getting Darwin Nunez deal done after verbal agreement with Liverpool. Club-to-club deal is done, and Al Hilal are negotiating personal terms with Nunez. The decision is now up to him. Inzaghi wants him.”

According to talkSPORT, Al Hilal’s offer is expected to approach Liverpool’s €70 million (£61 million) asking price, with finances unlikely to be an issue.

It’s also been suggested that Aleksandar Mitrovic, a current Al Hilal player, could be sold if Nunez joins.

Nunez originally signed for Liverpool in a club-record £85 million deal in summer 2022 but has struggled to justify the hefty fee, often facing criticism for missing key chances.

He has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.

On Monday, Nunez netted what might be his final goal for Liverpool during a 4-1 win against Athletic Bilbao in the first of two friendlies.

The second game ended with Liverpool winning 3-2.

This potential deal for Nunez could improve Liverpool’s chances of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who has been strongly linked with the Premier League champions.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s search for a new forward faces complications as their top target Benjamin Sesko seems to prefer a move to Manchester United.

On Tuesday, reports stated the Red Devils have offered €75 million plus €10 million in add-ons for the Slovenian.

With Sesko seemingly out of reach, Newcastle have been linked with alternatives like Ollie Watkins, Nicolas Jackson, and Yoane Wissa.
