Darwin Nunez Deletes Post After Arne Slot Criticism, Then Sends Message to Liverpool Fans
Following criticism from Arne Slot, Darwin Nunez quickly deleted a social media post before addressing Liverpool supporters.
After Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, which dealt a setback to their title hopes, Nunez faced backlash for missing a crucial chance to secure a win. Coming on as a substitute, he squandered an open-goal opportunity set up by Dominik Szoboszlai, leading to frustration among fans and criticism from his manager.
Ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Manchester City, Slot called out Nunez for letting the miss affect his work rate in the final 20 minutes of the match. Unhappy with both the fan reaction and his manager’s remarks, Nunez took to social media to defend himself.
In his now-deleted post, the Uruguayan striker pointed out that just weeks ago, he was being praised for his match-winning performance against Brentford but was now being labeled a failure due to one missed chance. His original message read:
“Two, three weeks ago, Darwin was the best, Darwin gave us the three points. But yesterday, I was unlucky enough to miss a goal, and suddenly, I’m the ‘worst’ and a failure. I don’t stay down—I get back up, and I’ll never give up. I’ll give my all until the last day I have to be in Liverpool. Resilience!”
However, just two minutes later, Nunez deleted the post, revised his statement, and shared a shorter version:
“I wasn’t the best three weeks ago, and I’m not the worst now. If I fall, I get up. You’ll never see me give up. I’ll give my all until the last day I’m here in Liverpool. Resilience!”
He notably removed references to being “unlucky” and being called a “failure,” while also rewording the phrase “until the last day I have to be in Liverpool” to “until the last day I’m here in Liverpool.” This change came after some fans speculated that his original wording hinted at a potential summer exit amid reported interest from the Saudi Pro League.
This isn’t the first time Nunez has sparked controversy on social media. Previously, he fueled transfer rumors by deleting all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram account.
